I've been reading reviews of Vista Beta 2 as they cross my path, and the one common theme among them is the appalling way Microsoft have taken to security. I'm all for beefing up Windows security (would make my job alot easier!) but I agree with the reviewers; they've overdone it.

This screenshot is a prime example of that, it takes 7 steps to delete a shortcut off the desktop! 7! Thats rediculous!

http://proct.odynia.org/blog/vista_delete_shortcut.jpg

I'll summarise it here:

Right click on the shortcut and click "Delete". (fairly standard)

Asked to confirm deletion of the shortcut. (also standard)

For some reason, we're not allowed to put it in the Recycle Bin, confirm we would like to permanently delete it.

Apparently we don't have permission to delete the shortcut (!?), confirm that you want to delete it anyway!

Windows needs permission to delete the shortcut, confirm again!

Having changed its mind, Windows moves the shortcut to the Recycle Bin.

Asked to confirm again to empty the Recycle Bin.

Could you go through this everytime you want to do something simple in Vista? I don't think I could...
