I figured it is about time I updated my progress here on Day 18 (Week 3) as it has been almost 9 days. So, has there been further weight loss?

Dukan Diet: Day 9 (5kgs!)

Weight Loss to Date

It’s been a busy day on the blog here today. And a new milestone in the diet!

Today’s weight: 89.0kg
Loss Since Yesterday: 0.7kg
Weight Loss to Date: 5.0kg

Yep! That’s right, the first 5kg have been lost in only eight days. I’m actually pretty proud of that, and despite the gnawing hunger this evening it has given me the energy to continue on with the diet.

Another mostly unplanned day (I’m getting on top of it, honest) saw me at Subway twice. The first time for a salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pickles, carrot) with steak (double meat) and a bit of sweet onion dressing.

For dinner, the same salad with chicken and a bit of honey mustard dressing. These are both low-fat dressings, but the sugar count is still rather high so if you must have it keep it to a minimum. I’ll do a separate post in the next day or two about how to make the most of subway in a Dukan Diet friendly way.

At home after my chicken salad saw some yoghurt and oat bran, later on at night with a bit of oat bran porridge. I had a low-fat/low-sugar packet latte thing with some water too, so I’m actually rather concerned now about the amount of sugar I ingested today. Hopefully it’s not harmful to my efforts so far.

Tomorrow, the Meatballs again with some mint yoghurt, and I think I’ll add some onion.

Weight Loss to Date

Flatsville! I didn’t lose a thing yesterday. While that is not necessarily a bad thing, I think its time to properly cut pork out for the time being.

Today’s weight: 89.7kg
Loss Since Yesterday: 0.0kg
Weight Loss to Date: 4.3kg

Why cut pork products out? The book says to, for one. It’s a bit contradictory though in that it highly recommends lean cold ham (like for sandwiches) as having less fat than the leanest cuts of beef. However ham steak and now bacon with similar levels of fat to the sandwich ham have resulted in a weight gain and no weight loss, respectively. So, so long all pork products except the sandwich ham!

Today was another Pure Protein day because of my double Protein and Vegetable faux pas. That is not such a problem though, a Cinnamon Pancake (which really needs sweetener) for breakfast followed by the usual Barbecue and Tandoori chicken pieces for lunch. I’m in trouble when I get sick of those.

Dinner was two pieces of fish, microwaved then slightly pan-fried to make them a little more edible, with a failed attempt at the Cottage Cheese Devilled Eggs. I forgot the cottage cheese, so the mustard was rather overwhelming. Some low-fat/low-sugar Vanilla Yoghurt for desert and that’s it.

I’m still having issues with my digestive system functioning normally though, so I am upping the Metamucil to twice a day to see if I can’t get back to normal.

Tomorrow, a Protein and Vegetable day will be nice. I do miss my vegetables and salads when I can’t have them.

I might start photographing meals I’ve made too, try to add some colour to these posts.

Weight Loss to Date

The kilograms keep tumbling! Despite two days of Protein and Vegetables in a row, it’s still falling fast. If this keeps up I might need to adjust the diet.

Today’s Weight: 89.7kg
Loss Since Yesterday: 0.7kg
Weight Loss to Date: 4.3kg

A healthy weight loss is considered to be about a kilogram a week. The Attack Phase not withstanding, I’ve lost about 2.8kg more than I should have to in the first week, and I have tomorrow’s weigh in to go.

However, that’s not the end of the world. Having more vegetable days should slow the course of the weight loss without deviating from the prescribed diet should I need to, but for today I stuck with the plan; the first of two Pure Protein days. Why two? You should alternate evenly through Pure Protein (PP) and Protein and Vegetable (PV) days. Or more simply: eat the Pure Protein stuff every day, and every second day you’re allowed to eat vegetables too.

As I messed up and had two Protein and Vegetable days in a row, I think I’m correct in balancing that out with two Pure Protein days before returning to the proper schedule. However, as the Pure Protein days are the ones with the higher weight loss, this might lead to an unsustainable loss for me, but we’ll see what tomorrow brings.

Today’s culinary exploration started with a skipped breakfast again and my chicken pieces for lunch (double barbecue flavour this time). Dinner was low-fat bacon (2.7g of fat per 100g) and two fried eggs. This was followed by my first attempt at a Cinnamon Pancake, which was acceptable, but I need to invest in some artificial sweetener. A couple of cans of Coke Zero and some Metamucil at the end of the day to try to resolve the digestive issues I’ve had.

I found a few diet-compatible bread recipes, which I think I need to investigate heavier tomorrow.

Dukan Diet Days 5 and 6: Cruising

Weight Loss to Date

I forgot to post yesterday’s update, and that is partly because I had put on weight from the day before and was feeling a bit lost and unsure whether I should continue. Fortunately, I stuck at it!

Yesterday’s weight: 91.4kg
Gain from previous day: 0.7kg
Total loss to date: 2.6kg

Today’s weight: 90.4kg
Loss from previous day: 1.0kg
Total loss to date: 3.6kg

The Attack Phase ended on Day 4, with a total weight loss of 2.6kg (up from the 1.5kg I had expected). Day 5 brought the start of the Cruise Phase, which means vegetables and salads. There is a handy list of acceptable vegetables here that I have used.

So what happened on Day 4 to gain 700 grams? Good question, looking back to yesterday, I had a couple of eggs when I got home after writing that post. Which means a total of 5 eggs across the day. It might also have been the ham steak.

Anyway, Day 5 started with the last of my Pancakes for breakfast on my way to work, followed by the BBQ and Tandoori chicken pieces. I forgot the garden salad I was intending to have (rushed to work again). Followed by the world’s best steak and a salad for dinner. I think a diet coke was the only drink I had all day that wasn’t water. I was a bit worried about the basting on the steak, but that was apparently unfounded.

Day 6 (today) was a bit abbreviated as I had skipped breakfast (I don’t usually eat breakfast anyway). Subway for lunch, a salad of Lettuce, Tomato, Pickles, Cucumber and Carrot with double chicken pieces, some pepper and a splash of Honey Mustard dressing (less than 1.5g fat).

For dinner; steak with a homemade mushroom sauce. The sauce I made of Mushrooms, Onion, Garlic, Chicken Stock and a bit of Yoghurt was a runny failure. I think the overall recipe was ok, but I need to drain the stock before adding the yoghurt. I had some yoghurt afterwards for dessert, which I realised to my horror that I had added Cinnamon Sugar to instead of Cinnamon. Fortunately it was only a bit, but the Cinnamon Sugar is now in the bin.

For late night dessert (I shouldn’t, but I was really hungry) a bit of diet vanilla yoghurt and my two tablespoons of Oat Bran.

Hoping for a good weigh in tomorrow!
